The Ten Commandments - #1 & #2

Exodus 20:3-6 - Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jelous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth genration of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.

While we do not often here of modern civilizations bowing down before idols of gold, silver, or brass, idol worship is as alive as it was in the day in which Moses delivered the ten commandments to the children of Israel. Notice God's first commandment, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." The truth is, if many Christians were honest with themselves they would freely admit that there are at least in their lives that they allow something to take precedence over God.

Sports, television, money, and weekends at the lake or beach are just some of the things that often become more important to Christians than God. While many Christians have no problem watching 3 hours of primetime television each evening they somehow find it difficult to pick up their Bible for more than five minutes, praying for more than 10 minutes is a hassle, and going to church more than twice a week is considered a bother.

Why is this? The truth is, because Christians are putting other gods before the One, True, and Living God. Let me encourage you not to put other gods before Jesus Christ, but make him your number one priority. You will find that spending time with God is the most refreshing part of your day.
